Switchboard Upgrades done properly

Your switchboard is the heart of your home's electrical system, and most boards on the Peninsula are decades behind the loads being thrown at them. Ceramic fuses, no safety switches, asbestos panels, no spare ways for the heat pump or EV charger you're planning — we see it every day. A modern board with RCBOs on every circuit is the single biggest electrical safety improvement you can make, and it's the foundation every electrification upgrade builds on.

Safety switches on every circuit

Older boards protect the wiring, not the people. RCBOs (combined safety switch + breaker) on every circuit shut power off in milliseconds when something goes wrong — that's what prevents electrocution and many house fires.

Asbestos panels handled properly

Plenty of older boards are mounted on asbestos backing. We manage removal and disposal correctly as part of the upgrade — no shortcuts.

Built for what's coming

We size and lay out new boards for the loads you'll add later: EV charger, induction, heat pump hot water, solar and battery. Doing it once, properly, is far cheaper than reworking the board every time you add something.

Certificate of Electrical Safety

Every upgrade is tested, compliant with AS/NZS 3000, and certified — the documentation matters for insurance and for sale time.

Avoid costly upgrades

Thirty seconds on how smart planning — load management, the right protection and a properly laid-out board — can save you thousands compared to brute-force supply upgrades.

We assess before we quote, so you only pay for what your home actually needs.

Straight answers

How do I know if my switchboard needs upgrading?

Red flags: ceramic fuses, no safety switches, a black asbestos panel, breakers that trip constantly, or no room to add circuits. If your home is pre-1990s and the board has never been touched, it almost certainly needs it.

How long does a switchboard upgrade take?

Most residential upgrades are done in a day, with power off for part of it. We'll confirm timing in the quote and schedule around you — fridges and freezers survive fine.

Can you upgrade the board and install an EV charger together?

Yes, and it's the smart way to do it — one visit, one quote, and the board gets laid out with the charger circuit designed in rather than squeezed in.

Will my insurance care about an old fuse box?

Insurers are increasingly interested in electrical condition, and some ask directly about safety switches. A certified modern board removes any argument at claim time.
